Oh, that felt good!

*LOL* Nothing risque, don't worry!

Today I was at bible study, they provide child care so Christa was there too. When I went to get her, one of the ladies said, "Wow, Cherie, you have lost so much weight!" The other lady said, "Yes, 19 pounds, right?" First lady: "19 pounds? That is fabulous, you look absolutely marvelous!!" I was so thrilled! At last, someone noticed!!

My A to Z

Thanks for the idea, Traci ;)

Accent: Canadian, west coast, apparently. I don't have an accent though, everyone else does !

Booze of Choice: I haven't had any alcohol in years. I used to like raspberry cider.

Chore I Hate: Ironing. Ugh!!

Dog or Cat: I don't have either one, I like both though. Matt's allergic to cats so we'll never have one.

Essential Electronics: Gotta be the computer, hands down my fave.

Favorite Perfume: Don't wear it, ever.

Gold or Silver: Gold.

Hometown: I call Courtenay, where I live now, my hometown though I wasn't born here. I have been here since 1978 so it's definitely home.

Insomnia: Not often.

Job Title: Mom. Maybe wife, though I think I'm better at being a mom.

Kids: No thanks, I already have four ;)

Living Arrangement: With said four kids and my one dh in a way too small space for so many people. Check back in six months, we won't be so crowded anymore (are your fingers crossed for me?)

Most Admired Trait: Loyalty.

Number of Sexual Partners: Not about to answer this one. Let's just say more than I would like my kids to know about!

Overnight Hospital Stays: Two, when I had James and when I had Maya. I didn't stay more than a couple of hours after Becca or Christa.

Phobia: I can't stand earwigs. And I'm not good with heights.

Quote: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

Religion: Christian. I'm a member of a Baptist church but am currently attending a "small p" Pentecostal church.

Siblings: One brother. Two stepsisters that I acquired as an adult.

Time I Wake Up: During the week, 6am. On weekends, or days with no school, about 7:30.

Unusual Talent/Skill: None that I'm aware of.

Vegetable I Refuse To Eat: Probably be a shorter list of the ones I do eat! I really don't like artichokes.

Worst Habit: Letting the housework slide.

X-rays: Just dental ones and ultrasounds for pregnancies.

Yummy Foods I Make: I'm not the cook in the family. I do make a great apple crisp though.

Zodiac Sign: I don't put any credence in this stuff but according to the charts, I'm a Pisces.

Getting a little panicky

And yes, that really is a word (had to look it up). It's the very last week in March. Dh has his first final a week from today. He's almost done school and I have no idea where we will be going. He NEEDS to find a job right away, we have no income once he's done. Of course, we have almost no income now, so that won't be so different. However, I know how easy it is for him to spend all day doing nothing, so I'm picturing him sitting at his computer, surfing for new music or Reuters Oddly Enough stories. I have to be careful not to say too much to him, I don't want to sound like all I care about is him making money but let's face facts, without it, we're toast. The other side of the panic problem is that we need to do something with this place. It's got a bunch of cosmetic work needed, a bunch. Floors need replacing because they're marked, ceilings need replacing because they're worn out. Carpet in the living room has been ugly since I moved in here. The roof needs some work too, nothing major though. The steps dh built need painting. Oh, and the shower surround needs replacing. We are so not the handy types. Anyway, the point is that all this work would need doing before the place could be put on the market, so that's $$ as well. *sigh* Thanks for letting me get that out!

Time to talk about the "e" word

Yeah, I said it. Well, I didn't yet, but I will. EXERCISE. There, it's out in the open. Ever noticed that people are either obsessed with doing it or obsessed with avoiding it? I've been in the latter category most of my life. I figured all the running around that I have done after four kids in a row was enough exercise for anyone. Not according to my doctor and the other so-called expert types. Apparently you actually have to raise the heartrate for it to be worthwhile, not just the blood pressure ;)

That said, I've been exercising for a while now as part of my weight loss goals. I've been walking, outside when the weather will cooperate (I have a preferred 1.5 mile loop) and inside with
WATP when it's rainy or too late in the day. Sometimes I will do both, yes, I'm a convert. A few days ago my kids talked me into trying their DDR game. Well! I found out that I can do that and burn off a bunch of calories, it will even calculate how many. I'm really really bad at the game but it doesn't matter, it's still fun.

Just kick me if I start waxing on about endorphins or whatever they're called, okay?

What, did I go psycho just because I had another birthday? Sorry for disappearing on ya, can't promise it won't happen again but I'm going to try to be better. Heaven knows there are enough thoughts going through my head on any given day, I'm sure I can find something to blog about!

Lessee, oh, got one! Guess what? My hideous driver's license photo is actually not. Hideous, that is. In fact, it's one of the better pics of myself that I've seen in many years. Shock! I'd share it with you, but I don't know how to make the colours come out right with dh's scanner. You'll just have to trust me on that one.

Another thing to update about - I'm still losing weight. Yay me! Down 19.2 pounds. My mom is bragging to mutual friends *LOL*

Kids are back in school after spring break last week. Maya was home until today, she had some kind of virus that mutated around and caused fevers, headaches, coughs, laryngitis, nausea. The girl ran the gamut. But she's good again and was excited to see her friends when I dropped her off this am. Whew! So it's just me and the little whirlwind again.

Glub glub glub. Anyone want some rain? I've got plenty to spare if you want it. Hey, at least it's not the white stuff!!

One more thing (yeah, bear with me, it's been over a week, okay?) - we've more or less settled on a new church. Not planning to take out a membership but it's a home for us nonetheless. The worship continues to be awesome and the pastor (who we FINALLY heard preach) was good. Eventually we will convince the whirlwind that it's okay to be in a Sunday school class with B-O-Y-S.

'k, enough for now. Comments welcome ;)

Warm up those voices, folks!

How about a rousing round of Happy Birthday? Come on, sing out! It's my birthday, I'm now officially "forty-something". It wasn't so bad being 40, but f-s is something else. I am not young anymore, to anyone but my mom. And I think she has her doubts. I have plenty of gray hairs, plenty of wrinkles (laugh lines, haha), wobbly upper arms and creaks and groans galore. I do not have age spots, but that's because I have so many freckles that they blend in ;) I like the line from Bon Jovi & Jennifer Nettles' duet - "There isn't one of these lines that I would erase." Yep, I've earned them all and I'm proud of being me. Old and all.

Why am I quaking like a little girl? I have to go get my *gulp* driver's licence renewed. No big deal, right? The line is usually fairly short in the middle of the day, I pay my $75 and that's it. Nope. I have to have the dreaded photo taken. I have never, I repeat never, seen a decent DL photo. Do they have special cameras that only take nasty pics? I can just see the employees sitting around after hours voting on who took the WORST pic that day. Ugh. I really don't want to do this. Oh, and to top it off, they will want to know how tall I am and how much I weigh. Fun fun fun. The upside is they want to know in kilograms so I sound thin if you don't do the conversion to real weight properly ;)

Yep, it's in Africa. Anyone know more than that about it? Not me. Very good friends of ours just left on Saturday for Mbarara, Uganda for an 8 month stay. They're working for ACTS, a group that helps with rural water supply. Drew was our pastor for over 6 years and his wife Libby is one of my favourite people in the world. They went through several miscarriages in the first ten years of married life and then, when they decided not to try anymore, she got pregnant with Liam. He's almost 5 now and is big brother to Rachel, 2. Miracle kids, and cute ones at that. Just an all around great family and wonderful friends. I miss them terribly and at the same time am rather envious of the experiences that they will have.
