In a slump

It's been really hard to find time and motivation and ideas lately. I'm sorry about that, I do love to blog and I love to read them too. Hopefully I can find the things that I've been missing and get back in the swing of blogging. I still partially blame facebook!

Christmas was good, btw. And New Year's Eve will be too, we stay home with the kids and eat and drink and eat some more. It's been snowing today and a little last night so we're getting some white during the Christmas season which makes my kids happy. I don't mind if I don't have to drive on ice.

#22

"Grouchy people" refers to those who are rude, arrogant and condescending to others this time of year. You know the ones, they act like the cashier is incompetent because it takes longer than 3.24 seconds to process their order at Walmart.

So, Michele, you're off the list as I don't think you're ever like that. Hugs!

A Christmas meme - from Heather

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Wrapping paper unless it's big/bulky/oddly shapped, then it might be in a bag.
2. Real tree or artificial? Real for me, needles and all.
3. When do you put up the tree? I like to put it up about three weeks before Christmas but this year it went up on Nov. 24, way too early imo :P
4. When do you take the tree down? Usually New Year's Day.
5. Do you like eggnog? Nope.
6. Favorite gift received as a child? I don't know, can't think of one in particular.
7. Do you have a nativity scene? Yes, it's glass.
8. Hardest person to buy for? James.
9. Easiest person to buy for? Christa/Becca/Maya.
10. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? Probably something dumb from oh never mind I'd better not say ;)
11. Mail or email Christmas cards? Mail! I love Christmas cards. I like receiving either kind though.
12. Favorite Christmas Movie? I don't have a fave.
13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? December?
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Nope, not yet anyway.
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Butter tarts.
16. Clear lights or colored on the tree? Coloured. Either look pretty but I like coloured on my tree :)
17. Favorite Christmas song? Uhhh, I dunno. Silent Night maybe.
18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? I would rather stay home.
19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer? Sure, but not without singing ;)
20. Angel on the tree top or a star? We have an angel, I prefer a star.
21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Mostly Christmas morning. The kids open one on Christmas Eve but I bet you can guess what that one is!
22. Most annoying thing about this time of year? Grouchy people.
23. What I love most about Christmas? Celebrating Jesus.

So, how's it going?

I've been feeling way behind on all the stuff that has to be done before the BIG day, and in order to avoid doing some of it, I'm here checking in with you all. Let's see, the tree is up and fully decorated. There's even one present under it - something Christa made in kindergarten, my favourite kind of present. I have sent out all my cards (I think) and have a few up on my wall from friends and family - I think cards are the best part in many ways of my Christmas. I sent out over 100 this year, my family jokes that I send to everyone I've ever met. I'll just tell you now that if you don't get a card from me and you want one, just let me know, you'll be on my "list" forever, or until you get a restraining order ;) Presents are almost all bought, those that aren't are planned for. I haven't wrapped a thing though. Matt put up lights outside, most of them even work *LOL* The neighbour across the street brought us a bunch of cookies and fudge, that should hold us over for a few days...I hate to do any baking too early as my gang just eats it all and there's nothing left for actual Christmas. I have to go shopping for Christmas breakfast but that's a not yet thing as well. We will have our usual homemade (by Matt, of course) waffles with berries & whipped cream or syrup, depending on the age of the person eating. Kids just don't like berries, too many seeds they say. That's my kids, not normal kids! Oh, and turkey bacon, have to have that too. None of us really like regular bacon anymore. I'm sure there are other things I have to do in the next N I N E days, but I can't think of them right now. I'm still going with that conspiracy theory.

Overheard and overboard

I overheard a mom today talking about something her 5yo son wanted for Christmas. She apparently told him that it was not possible, that he wasn't going to get it, and he told her that he wanted it. She told him, "I want a Mercedes, it doesn't mean I'm going to get it" and he replied that he would just ask Santa then because Santa can do anything. So, she told her friend that she and her dh found "it" on ebay, thank goodness for ebay. Her hubby looked everywhere for it.

I was thinking, gee, why not just get him something else and not bother with whatever it was that was so out of line? I guess some people are too scared of disappointing their kids to remain reasonable. Ugh.
